Responding to strong feedback from local residents and stall-holders, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Dirk Hazell today launched a petition in North End Road to save the market from the hostile Tory Council.
"I have used North End Road Market for decades and, like other local residents, know it to be a really valuable source of good quality food at below supermarket prices.
But the Tory Council is stealthily inflicting "death by a thousand cuts" on this valuable local amenity. This is on top of Tory neglect which has let to so many shops in Munster Road and Dawes Road standing empty: Dawes Road, with 1 in 4 shops now empty, is London's 3rd worst in terms of empty shops.
Your local Liberal Democrat campaign team wants to save North End road market by giving:-
fairer parking to stall-holders - with some off-street parking if possible - so they can do a full day's work
equal treatment on pavement access for stall-holders and shopkeepers and
fairer Council licensing for stalls, including more access for seasonal and part-time stall-holders.
As a former local councillor in London, I have already seen a dogmatic Tory council suck the blood out of one community: I hope local residents will support our petition to ensure that North End Road can continue to provide an essential local service.
